Crookedness made straight

Posted by Travis Klaas on November 28, 2014 at 8:30am 1 Comment

Luk 3:5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

In leu of all that is transpiring throughout the world, one must understand the 3 idioms which are within this one verse alone.

1) "Valleys filled up" ~ wrongs righted, injustices removed.

2) "mountains and hills leveled" ~ proud and arrogant men humbled.

3) "crooked…

Gratitude Develops Humility

Posted by Mary Anne Burks on November 26, 2014 at 9:21am 1 Comment

Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord; the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 29:19

I watch our grandchildren ages six months to five years and marvel at their manners. It is sweet to see them learning how to be grateful by using phrases like, “Thank you Pop, for this delicious pancake” or “BiBi, thanks for letting me spend the night at your house.”  Their gratitude…

Managing Change

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:20-21).

Change can make me uncomfortable and uncertain about the future. If I ignore change, I lose my opportunity to influence the process. If I embrace change, I treat it as a friend who wants to help, instead of a foe who wants to hurt me. The reality of change requires…

Unchanging God

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Change can be exhausting or it can be exhilarating. It can blow in my face like a strong nor'easter  giving me a feeling of strong resistance or be a positive force  pushing me forward with accelerated momentum. In my mind, I like the good change of work progress and travel adventure, but I avoid the bad change of relational…

Poem: Saintly Seeds

Posted by Joseph J. Breunig 3rd on November 26, 2014 at 5:09am 1 Comment

Let your Life be a sacred garden,

planted with genuine, saintly seeds;

properly nurturing your crop daily,

yields blessings for personal needs.

Begin with three rows of peas:

“Peace” of mind, heart and soul,

for it creates a basic foundation

that leaves you healthy and whole.

Next plant four rows of squash:

”Squash” vain gossip, indifference,

grumbling and unwelcome selfishness

to reap real, spiritual brilliance.

Add four…

Gratitude Shows Up

Posted by Mary Anne Burks on November 25, 2014 at 7:57am 1 Comment

Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. Acts 8:2

When a life has been well spent and invested in the kingdom of God, admirers show up to pay honor at their homegoing to heaven. The godly show up to honor the death of the godly. It is gratitude to God that compels Christ followers to attend the funeral of another faithful brother or sister in the faith. Mourning comforts the one…

PRAISE HIS NAME !

John 3:1-16

1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
